Belleview, FL (November 24, 2021) – On Wednesday morning, November 24, a fatal DUI accident happened on a highway in Belleview.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of US-441. A van carrying six people was traveling north while a man in a pickup truck was behind the van and speeding toward it in the same lanes. The driver did not stop in time, causing the 32-year-old to slam into the back of the van. Both vehicles spun out and went off the side of the road. A portion of the van split into two as the van flipped.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Two people were thrown from the van during the accident, which killed the victims. The driver of the van and three other passengers had to be hospitalized with minor to critical injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Logan Wier, also received minor injuries. He is now facing charges including DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury, and more.
Several lanes of traffic were blocked following the accident for a period of time.
