Fort Lauderdale, FL – Man Injured in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on I-595

Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 27, 2021) – Before 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning, October 27, a fatal pedestrian crash occurred in Fort Lauderdale.

 

According to Florida Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-595 around the area of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. A Hispanic male was walking in the area when he started to cross the street, being struck by a sedan. The driver got out to check on the pedestrian, which is when their vehicle was struck by a garbage truck.

 

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian was critically injured and rushed to Broward Health Medical Center. Their current condition is not yet known.

 

All lanes were blocked in the area until approximately 7:30 a.m. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
