Fort Lauderdale, FL - One Injured, One Killed in Pride Parade Crash at 1700 NE Fourth Ave

Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 19, 2021) – Officers with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department say that a truck driver ran over two pedestrians at the beginning of the Stonewall Pride Parade in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday evening, June 19, killing one and leaving another with critical injuries.

The festival is celebrated by Wilton Manors during Pride Month but took place in Fort Lauderdale at 1700 Northeast Fourth Avenue just before 7:00 p.m.

Surveillance footage shows that the pickup truck was in the procession when the driver accelerated and crashed into the Fort Lauderdale Garden Center. Moments later, police detained him. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials reported that paramedics transported both victims, identified only as adult men, to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.

One of the victims later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police have not yet confirmed if the driver crashed on purpose. FLPD Detective Ali Adamson said that the investigation is active, and the FBI is also investigating. They are currently questioning the driver and have not released his identity.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Accidents in Florida

Across the Sunshine State, more fatal collisions occur than most other states throughout the country each year. In fact, Florida often lands in the top five states for accident deaths. Approximately 3,200 fatalities stemmed from nearly 3,000 crashes throughout Florida in just one year due to the fact that many people hit the roads while vacationing, moving, and even commuting daily.

These collisions happen due to many different reasons, including distracted driving, DUI, speeding, and more. If you have sustained serious injuries or lost someone you love in a fatal crash that took place due to another party's negligent actions, it is essential that you seek the help of an accident attorney in your time of need.
