Davie, FL (January 22, 2022) – One person was injured in a semi-truck accident that took place on a major highway in Davie on Saturday morning, January 22.
According to Broward County officials, the accident happened around 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of traffic on the Florida Turnpike near I-595. The accident allegedly took place when the driver of a semi-truck was about to strike a passenger vehicle but swerved out of the way just in time. This caused the driver of the passenger vehicle and a small box truck to lose control and collide with each other.
Police confirmed that a driver made a U-turn to avoid the crash and, in doing so, struck the semi-truck. The driver of the truck ran off the side of the road where it struck a concrete barrier and dangled over the side of the overpass. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the vehicle that was making a U-turn was rushed to the hospital but is expected to recover.
Due to the severity of the accident, all northbound lanes of traffic were blocked in the area until 9 a.m.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
