Fort Lauderdale, FL (July 19, 2021) – On Sunday morning, July 18, a fatal car crash took place at an intersection in Fort Lauderdale.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police, the accident happened at the intersection of West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 24th Avenue. Police confirmed that a white BMW was headed east in the area while a silver Chevrolet was headed west. The driver of the Chevy started to make a left turn when the driver of the BMW slammed into the side of the Chevy. The BMW then struck a light pole in the area and caught on fire.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The driver of the BMW, identified as 25-year-old Chavalier Johnson, was badly injured due to burns that he suffered in the crash. He has since been hospitalized. The passenger in the BMW, identified as 20-year-old Chadaja Bess, was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was taken after the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Francis, was not injured in the crash. He remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
