Miami, FL – Hit-and-Run Scooter Accident on Brickell Ave Bridge

Miami, FL (December 9, 2021) – At 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday night, December 8, a hit-and-run scooter accident occurred in Miami.

According to Miami Police, the accident happened on the Brickell Avenue Bridge. Police confirmed that 29-year-old Cristian David Acmendariz-Moreta was headed south in his blue BMW when a man on a scooter started to merge. The two vehicles forcefully collided with each other. The driver of the BMW continued onward without stopping.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The unidentified victim on the scooter was rushed to a local trauma center for treatment of critical injuries.

Police continued their search for the driver following the accident. They found the BMW with Acmendariz-Moreta inside, who told police that he suspected he killed the motorcyclist on the bridge. They smelled alcoholic beverages on his breath and charged him with leaving the scene of a crash and driving under the influence resulting in serious injury.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes for a period of time as police cleared the scene of the accident.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Scooter Accidents in Florida

Though scooter accidents are not the most common accidents on our roads, they tend to lead to some of the most severe injuries. This is due to the fact that scooter riders have no protection from harm when they are involved in an accident with a larger vehicle. These accidents tend to lead to severe injuries, including the following:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Organ damage
  • Broken bones

These injuries are sometimes so severe that they land victims in the hospital and cause them to miss out on time in the workplace. If you have been hurt in a scooter accident, you should have the dedicated help of an attorney on your side.

It is never easy to face the aftermath of a scooter-related accident, especially if you have sustained serious injuries. You may have questions that you are unable to answer on your own. For instance, what types of evidence do you need to prove that another party is at fault for your accident? What deadlines will you be required to meet when it comes to moving forward with a claim? Will your claim be settled or will it make it all the way to trial? These are questions that you can answer with the help of a Miami personal injury attorney on your side.
