Pompano Beach, FL (August 4, 2021) – According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, traffic homicide detectives are investigating a crash that killed a man in Pompano Beach on Saturday evening, July 31.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., a 2008 Jeep Compass was traveling northbound on Southwest 26th Avenue approaching the intersection of North Palm Aire Drive. At the same time, a 2014 Buick Verano was driving southbound on Southwest 26th Avenue approaching the same intersection.
Deputies' investigation reveals that the driver of the Buick was making a left turn onto North Palm Aire Drive when Nelson Ervin, the driver of the Jeep Compass, entered the intersection, colliding with the vehicle. Ervin was ejected from the vehicle. Both drivers and a passenger inside the Jeep Compass were transported to Broward Health North in serious condition.
The driver of the Buick Verano was pronounced dead at the hospital. Their identifying information has not been released, however.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked for hours until police cleared the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues, and further details have not been provided.
